Manly Swirl by timbodon Manly Swirl by timbodon
Captured this one on the shelves near Manly Beach, NSW, Australia. It was a morning that displayed all types of weather at once. The sun came out giving this lovely burst of colour while on the horizon a storm rolled across. Lot of fun indeed.

I think this is brilliant! The colours are gorgeous :D

I feel like you'd be a good person to ask here, I own the same camera and lens that you used for this and I've been wanting to try out long exposures for this silky water effect for a while now. What exact set-up do you have with regards to your filters? I'd been reading about the Cokin "P" series and lots of folk were saying that the holder would intrude into the shot on a wide angle lens like the Canon 10-22mm so I'm really not too sure what to buy! Any advice? :)

Thx

The P series filters are fine providing a couple of things. When using the Circ Polarizer, you can't go below 14mm without the filter showing in the picture. For any requirement lower, I also have the wide angle adapter which allows for 1 filter to be in it...for times when I just want to hold back the sky. Given the money, I would buy the Z Pro...but they are way more expensive. Good Luck

Ah thanks very much! :D I'll have a look around and see what I can find. I reckon I'll need to go for the "P" series too, at least until I start making a bit more money!

Another perfect image. What kind of post-processing routine do you use? Does it involve HDR processing or is it local contrast enhancement?
Reply
:icontimbodon:
timbodon Featured By Owner Jul 1, 2010
The post processing is pretty much from Raw to Photoshop to add some local contrast and saturation. No HDR for this one..it just had that much detail that day! Thx for the feedback

Nice shot, but I find the horizon a little too centered which is giving it bad thirds IMHO. Also it doesn't need to be 1000px for web, I'm sure you'd still see the detail at 800px ;)

Damn...I posted the wrong file. I hadnt noticed. Thx for the feedback Drew...I hear ya about the centered. Got greedy and went for too much of both worlds!

That is a seriously stunning shot there! Beautiful light mixed with the rain on the horizon! The swirl on the rocks is an awesome detail too... im sure it couldnt be planned but one of those awesome things that you spot after which makes a shot just that bit more special!
